We start all equal –

how language and education shape future opportunities
Educational equality does not happen by chance. It requires commitment, responsibility and long-term engagement. As part of the Teach For Austria Week, Antje Schwemberger, ESG spokesperson and Environmental Manager for the Tyrolit Group, stepped into the classroom of a secondary school class. Under the premise "We start all equal" she spent an hour talking to young impressionable minds about the importance of language. The classroom itself reflected today’s society: multinational, multilingual and diverse. More than seven different languages were spoken among the students. While English connected almost everyone, each individual language represented identity, culture and personal background.

A lesson beyond the classroom

The session combined practical insights with future perspectives. Alongside introducing our industry and discussing abrasive tools, the conversation quickly shifted to a topic that resonated most with the students: their dream jobs. Together, they explored what these ambitions require – and why language plays a key role.

Today, around 68% of larger companies use English as their corporate language. For many students, this was a turning point: English is not just a school subject, but a tool that can actively shape their future opportunities.

You realise how early educational paths are shaped – and how much responsibility lies in the classroom.

Why this matters

In Austria, a child’s opportunities are still strongly influenced by their socio-economic background. Students from less fortunate environments often face structural barriers throughout their educational journey – This is where Teach For Austria makes a difference.

Through its Social Leadership Programme, the organisation places dedicated graduates in schools where they support children over several years, helping them build confidence, skills and long-term perspectives.

Our long-term commitment

As part of the Swarovski Foundation network, Tyrolit supports Teach For Austria as a long-standing partner. Since 2014, this collaboration has grown into a multi-layered partnership creating a real social impact.

Key initiatives include:

  • Supporting the Fellowship Programme

  • The Shine Brighter Challenge promoting environmental awareness and creativity

  • Distribution of 1,000 reusable water bottles to schools

Shaping futures together

What may seem like a single lesson highlights something bigger: equal potential exists, but not equal starting conditions.

Language can connect, open doors and create opportunities. At the same time, diversity in language reflects diversity in identity. For Teach For Austria Fellows, working with this reality is part of their everyday responsibility.

Tyrolit is committed to the future.
We take responsibility and make our contribution to the sustainable development of the economy.
